Dr. Awori held senior administrative roles in the United Nations before retiring at the level of Assistant Secretary General responsible for UNDP’s Africa Bureau. She is the Executive Director of the Institute for Social Transformation (IST), and also serves as Consular General for the Government of Liberia in Uganda. She is an African feminist in her own right, and continues to influence policy and gender responsive actions across the continent.
Dr. Kugonza is one of AFLI founding members and chairs the Finance and Resource Mobilization committee of the board. He is a public policy specialist, with rich experience in project planning, management, monitoring and evaluation. He is currently the Dean, School of Civil Service, Public Administration and Governance Studies at the Uganda Management Institute (UMI). Under funding support from UNDP, he led the development of a National Diaspora Policy for Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mr. Onweng chairs the Human Resources committee of the board. He is a rural development and disaster management specialist with extensive knowledge on risk reduction at an organizational level. Experienced in research on Primary Health Care, WASH, food and nutrition security, livelihoods and agri-business. In addition to being an authority on training in the areas of research and capacity building.
Ms. Kayaga chairs the Procurement and Logistics Committee of the board. She is a procurement specialist with extensive national and international experience. She has worked in the procurement industry in the United Kingdom (UK), and has formerly headed the Procurement Department at the Uganda Management Institute (UMI)
Mr. Duku is a financial management professional with 38 years of experience in the field. He has served as Director General in the Ministry of Finance, Government of South Sudan. Mr. Duku also has extensive experience in development, including managing a USAID-funded water and sanitation project in South Sudan.
Dr. Muhereza is a founder member of AFLI and is the chair of the Research and Policy Committee of the board. He is a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Basic Research and Makerere University Institute for Social Research. He has extensive experience in Research, Consulting and Teaching.
Hon. Pulkol is a founding member of AFLI. He has deep-running experience as a public servant, academic, social researcher and development professional. He began his career as a lecturer at Makerere University, then went on to become a Member of Parliament, and later Cabinet Minister in different social sector portfolios. Hon. Pulkol has also served as Deputy Regional Director for UNICEF in-charge of 23 country offices in East and Southern Africa. He is a specialist in Applied Research, Peace and security, legislative practice, policy analysis, development programming, advocacy and democratic governance.
